Primarily scientists and science students use the CRAAP Test in order to determine if articles are acceptable for use in an academic setting, though the test can be applied to the humanities. \u00a0Each category is worth 10 points and points are deducted when requirements are not met (1=worst, 10=best possible).\u00a0 Generally, a score of forty or higher is needed for the source to pass the test. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gettysburg.edu\/library\/research\/tips\/webeval\/index.dot\">Here<\/a>, you can access a version of a CRAAP test for sources found on the internet, where many of the sources for Itinera are found.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><span class=\"style1\"><b>C<\/b><\/span><b>urrency<\/b>: the timeliness of the information<br \/>\n<\/span>When was the information published or posted?<br \/>\nHas the information been revised or updated?<br \/>\nIs the information current or out-of date for your topic<br \/>\nAre the links functional?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><b>Relevance<\/b>: the importance of the information for your needs<br \/>\n<\/span>Does the information relate to your topic or answer your question?<br \/>\nWho is the intended audience?<br \/>\nIs the information at an appropriate level (i.e. not too elementary or advanced for your needs)?<br \/>\nHave you looked at a variety of sources before determining this is one you will use?<br \/>\nWould you be comfortable using this source for a research paper?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><b>Authority<\/b>: the source of the information<\/span>Who is the author\/publisher\/source\/sponsor?<br \/>\nAre the author&#8217;s credentials or organizational affiliations given?<br \/>\nWhat are the author&#8217;s credentials or organizational affiliations given?<br \/>\nWhat are the author&#8217;s qualifications to write on the topic?<br \/>\nIs there contact information, such as a publisher or e-mail address?<br \/>\nDoes the URL reveal anything about the author or source?<\/p>\n<p>examples: .com, .edu, .gov, \u00a0.org, or .net<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><b>Accuracy<\/b>: the reliability, truthfulness, and correctness of the content, and<\/span>Where does the information come from?<br \/>\nIs the information supported by evidence?<br \/>\nHas the information been reviewed or refereed?<br \/>\nCan you verify any of the information in another source or from personal knowledge?<br \/>\nDoes the language or tone seem biased and free of emotion?<br \/>\nAre there spelling, grammar, or other typographical errors?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large\"><b>Purpose<\/b>: the reason the information exists<br \/>\n<\/span>What is the purpose of the information? to inform? teach? sell? entertain? persuade?<br \/>\nDo the authors\/sponsors make their intentions or purpose clear?<br \/>\nIs the information fact? opinion? propaganda?<br \/>\nDoes the point of view appear objective and impartial?<br \/>\nAre there political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional, or personal biases?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CRAAP Test is a way to assess a source\u2019s validity in an academic setting.
